About NeuroBloom

The name NeuroBloom represents what we believe therapy can be: A place for neurodivergent individuals to grow without needing to change who they are.

So often, therapy has focused on helping people mask, suppress, or “fix” the parts of themselves that didn’t fit — especially those who are autistic, have ADHD, or experience the world in ways that are intense, nonlinear, or deeply sensitive ways. At NeuroBloom, we reject that idea and strive to take a different approach.

We believe that neurodiversity is not a flaw — it's a vital, natural part of human variation. Every nervous system is wired uniquely, and each deserves to be met with understanding, not judgment. We don’t pathologize difference. We support it, celebrate it, and help you navigate a world that often wasn’t built with your needs in mind.

Just like a flower doesn't need to be “fixed” to bloom — it just needs the right environment — you don’t need to be less sensitive, more social, quieter, quicker, or “easier” to deserve peace. You get to take up space exactly as you are.

NeuroBloom is about reclaiming that space, building a life that fits you, and blooming in your own time, on your own terms.

Practice Owner and Therapist at NeuroBloom

Hi! I’m Stephens, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), and the founder of NeuroBloom Counseling, PLLC. I created this practice to offer a safe, affirming space for neurodivergent individuals and families to feel understood, supported, and empowered — because everyone deserves to grow into their fullest, truest self.

I earned my undergraduate degree from Meredith College, where I triple-majored in Psychology, Sociology, and Criminology — a foundation that deepened my understanding of both individual and systemic experiences. I went on to complete my Master’s in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling at UNC Chapel Hill, where my passion for neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed care came into full bloom.

I bring both professional expertise and lived understanding to my work. As a wife, mother, and neurodiversity advocate, I know how important it is to feel seen and supported — not just as a set of symptoms, but as a whole person. Whether you're navigating a new diagnosis, parenting a neurodivergent child, or learning to unmask and heal in adulthood, I’m here to walk with you.

Outside of therapy, you can find me walking with my dog, spending time with family and friends, creating pottery, traveling, or soaking up the sunshine at the beach. These moments keep me grounded, joyful, and present — just like the kind of life I hope to help my clients build.

If you’re looking for a therapist who will honor your identity, meet you with compassion, and support your unique way of experiencing the world, you’re in the right place!

Our Values

At the heart of NeuroBloom Counseling are the values that shape everything we do:

  • Neurodiversity Affirmation: We don't view autism, ADHD, or other forms of neurodivergence as problems to fix. We celebrate differences in thinking, feeling, and processing the world.

  • Trauma-Informed Care: We understand how past experiences, including systemic harm and misdiagnosis, shape how people seek help. We move at your pace.

  • Client-Centered Collaboration: You are the expert on your life. Therapy is a space where your voice, values, and insights guide the work.

  • LGBTQIA+ Affirmation: We honor and celebrate all gender identities and sexual orientations. Therapy is a safe space where your identity is respected, validated, and valued.

  • Compassion Over Compliance: We’re not here to make you fit in. We’re here to support you without judgment in feeling more at home in your body, mind, and world. Therapy with us is about building trust, fostering self-compassion, and creating space for growth on your terms.

  • Sustainable Change: We don’t chase quick fixes. We help clients develop skills, insight, and self-trust they can carry forward long after therapy ends.

Our Approach

At NeuroBloom Counseling, therapy is never one-size-fits-all. We integrate evidence-based practices with an affirming, relational approach — always honoring your identity, lived experience, and the unique ways your brain and body move through the world.

We specialize in supporting neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ individuals with tools that are adaptable, trauma-aware, and respectful of your autonomy.

Our framework includes:

  • Person-Centered Therapy
You are the expert on your life. We build a safe, nonjudgmental relationship where you feel seen, heard, and supported — not analyzed or pathologized.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
We help you recognize the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors — and gently shift patterns that no longer serve you. Our CBT approach is adapted for neurodivergent brains and paced to match your capacity.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Through skills like mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, we help you build tools to navigate overwhelm, rejection sensitivity, and emotional intensity.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
We focus on making space for difficult thoughts and feelings while helping you connect to your values and take meaningful action. ACT honors both your emotional reality and your capacity for change.

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
For clients struggling with OCD or anxiety-driven rituals, we use ERP to support gradual exposure in a way that’s collaborative, empowering, and trauma-sensitive — never forceful or rigid.

  • Neurodivergent- and LGBTQIA+ Affirming Care
We work from a neurodiversity-affirming, queer-affirming, and anti-oppressive lens. You don’t need to educate us, mask who you are, or minimize your identities. Therapy is a place where your full self is welcomed — not just tolerated, but celebrated.
