Understanding Autism— Through a Respectful, Strengths-Based Lens
At NeuroBloom Counseling we honor who you are, not who you are told to be. We see autism as a natural part of neurodiversity — not a disorder to be fixed, but a difference to be supported, understood, and embraced. Whether you're an autistic adult, teen, or parent of an autistic child, you're welcome here just as you are.
Autism is a neurological and developmental difference that affects how people experience the world, process information, communicate, and connect with others. It's not a one-size-fits-all diagnosis — and it shouldn't be a one-size-fits-all therapy either.
Our Neuroaffirming Approach
Our practice is grounded in neurodiversity-affirming care, which means:
We reject the idea that autistic people need to be “normalized” or “fixed.”
We don’t pathologize stimming, special interests, or communication differences.
We respect sensory needs, processing styles, and social preferences.
We collaborate with clients to create goals that honor their identity and autonomy.
We support masking reduction and self-advocacy, not forced conformity.
We work from a place of compassion, curiosity, and deep respect — affirming each client’s unique way of being in the world.
Who We Support
We Provide Therapy and Support For
Autistic adults navigating relationships, burnout, masking, career challenges, and identity
Autistic teens building confidence, self-understanding, and coping tools
Children looking for support in building communication, regulation, and connection without shame
Late-diagnosed or self-diagnosed individuals processing what it means to be autistic
Parents and caregivers wanting to understand their child’s experience and support them from a neurodiversity-affirming perspective without behaviorist approaches
What Therapy Can Help With
While we don't view autism as a problem to solve, we recognize that being autistic in a world that isn’t designed for you can be hard. Our work together may include:
Autistic burnout & energy management
Sensory processing challenges
Unmasking, and identity development
Emotional regulation & nervous system support
Social relationships & communication (on your terms)
Advocacy skills & setting boundaries
Healing from ableism, trauma, and internalized shame
Support for transitions (school, college, work, etc.)
For Parents of Autistic Children
If you're parenting an autistic child or teen, we can work with you to:
Better understand your child’s sensory and communication needs
Reduce meltdowns by creating supportive environments, not relying on compliance
Move away from outdated behavioral models and into collaborative, respectful care
Co-regulate and build connection through a strengths-based approach
Validate and support your own emotions in the process
For Late-Diagnosed Adults
Many people discover they're autistic later in life — sometimes after years of feeling different, misunderstood, or burned out. We provide a safe space to:
Process your diagnosis or self-identification at your own pace
Make sense of past experiences through a neuroaffirming lens
Grieve missed support, accommodations, or understanding, if needed
Release shame that may have come from years of masking or mislabeling
Explore how your identity shows up in relationships, work, and daily life
Identify strengths alongside challenges
Begin to unmask and find what truly works for you
Develop self-advocacy skills and set boundaries that honor your needs
Build self-compassion and a more affirming relationship with yourself
